Inside Out Ornament Turning

Gary Barnes

Gary Barnes will be demonstrating how to turn these inside out ornaments. Here are some examples of Gary's recent inside out turned ornaments.

Inside out turnings get oohs and ahs when given as gifts and are fun and interesting to do. Folks are generally amazed and can't guess how it is done. The turning process appears mysterious but is really relatively simple - once you know how. No magic tools are required, just the normal spindle or bowl gouge and basic turning skills are all you need. Well, sharp tools really help. There are some tips and pitfalls you need to be aware of or things just won't go well or at all. All will be revealed at the demo at this month's club meeting.

Remember to bring some of your recent projects: Be sure to bring some of your recent turned projects for our Show and Tell, or Show and Ask session. This can be a completed turning, or one that you are still working on. During our Show and Tell, you will have the opportunity to show your turning to the group and tell us a little about how you turned it, what finish you used and if you encountered any challenges when turning, sanding, or finishing the piece.

Everyone in the club is interested in what you've been doing at the lathe. If you need help with a project you're working on, bring it and let's discuss it during the Show and Ask session. There is a lot of experience in the club and everyone is always happy to help.

Invite your woodturning friends: Please invite any of your woodturning friends who you think may be interested in joining our club. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me (Steve) at 713-826-0046 cell.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all at Woodcraft. Take care and best wishes to you and yours!

Steve Russell
LSWA President
