Show and Tell: Our July meeting will feature a very special format… We are expanding our usual “Show and Tell and Tips and Best Practices” portions of the meeting to fill the entire meeting. That’s right; we are going to have a Show and Tell-ethon, so you will have ample time to share your successful lathe or woodworking projects, as well as those projects that did not work out for some reason.
Please bring in any of your completed projects that you would like to share, as well as any projects that are only partially completed, or projects that you may be having challenges with like overall design, turning (bad surface, what tool to use etc), sanding, finishing, or any other problems. Got a woodturning or woodworking problem, we have answers! There are a lot of very talented members in our club and everyone is always willing to help, so bring in the good, the bad and the ugly! Feel free to bring in any lathe projects, as well as any traditional woodworking (non-lathe) projects that you have been working on in your studio.
We also want you to bring in any wood blanks that have been sitting in your studio for a long time and no matter how many times you look at it, you just can’t figure out what project might be waiting inside. Most us probably have a blank or two that we have been keeping for a long time (I have one that’s been gathering dust for 15 years) until we can figure out what to make with it. Bring that bad boy to the July meeting and get some fresh eyes on that puppy. Sometimes, that’s all it takes for you to see the project that lies within the blank.
Tips and Best Practices: We will also be discussing our members' best tips and practices for your woodturning/woodworking studio. You might have learned a new way to apply a spray finish, bought a tool or gadget recently that has really helped you, or perhaps you’ve found a new local or online supplier that really rocks and you want to share the information with other members.
Maybe you have built a jig that has really helped you in your workshop, or perhaps you’ve learned a neat trick that has made your time at the lathe easier or more enjoyable. These tips can be anything that would help our members in their woodturning/woodworking studios. Everyone in the club should be able to share one or two tips, so get ready to share them with your fellow LSWA members. This is going to be a great meeting, so look around and gather up your projects and I’ll see you at the meeting on July 23rd at Woodcraft.
Invite your woodturning friends: Please invite any of your woodturning friends who you think may be interested in joining our club. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me (Steve) at 713-826-0046 Cell. Take care and best wishes to you and yours!
