July - Special Members Meeting
|This month’s meeting will feature a very special format… We want members to bring several pieces of their work for an Expanded Show and Tell. This expanded format will allow you to showcase several of your completed pieces, projects that are in process, or raw blanks that you want to get ideas on how to proceed.
Here’s your opportunity to show the rest of the club what you love to turn, or build in your woodshop. These show and tell items are not limited to turned work, any woodworking project is welcome. Many of us dabble in traditional woodworking projects as well as lathe turned work, so bring your work and let us see what you’ve been up to in your studio.
We will also have a special session on Tips, Jigs and Workshop Solutions. Pete Allen wants to start a database of woodturning and woodworking tips for our club. These would include a few photos, and a brief explanation of what the tip/jig or solution is and how other members can benefit from it in their own studios.
To help Pete get this valuable database started, please email Pete information and a few photos of one or more of your best tips, jigs or workshop solutions as soon as possible. Members should come ready to present their best tip/s at our July meeting. If you cannot bring the actual jig, or an example of the tip, bring a few photos that we can pass around while you give a brief description of your tip or jig to the members. Members helping members, what’s better than that?
Pete wants this to be an ongoing process where you can submit your tips and best practices to help other members in the club with their woodturning, or woodworking related projects. Let’s all help Pete to get this tip and jig database up and running. Everyone has a great tip or two to share, so get geared up to share what you’ve learned with the rest of the club! Due to the special format of this meeting, there will no turning demonstration. This will leave us plenty of time for our expanded show and tell, as well as the tip, jig and workshop solution exchange.
Invite your woodturning friends: Please invite any of your woodturning friends who you think may be interested in joining our club. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me (Steve) at 713-826-0046 Cell. I will look forward to seeing you all at Woodcraft. Take care and best wishes to you and yours!
