|This month, Gary Barnes will demonstrate how to turn laminated ornaments with Christmas scenes and/or silhouettes of grandchildren, or other family members on each of four inlaid faces. The faces could also be circles of burl or other highly figured contrasting wood, if you prefer. Gary begins with a carefully machined square block on which he laminates contrasting blocks of figured wood, or scrollsawn silhouettes.
Before laminating, the block is drilled and the interior is hollowed to reduce weight. Inherent in the turning process is how to turn a sphere using different methods. The use of various tools will also be demonstrated. Gary will also show you how to hold the finished ornament for buffing. As you can see in the photos, the turned ornament can be round or elliptical in profile – the choice is yours! Don’t miss this informative demo, just in time for you to make your own special ornaments for friends and family.
Invite your woodturning friends: Please invite any of your woodturning friends who you think may be interested in joining our club. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me (Steve) at 713-826-0046 Cell. I will look forward to seeing you all at Woodcraft. Take care and best wishes to you and yours!
