January Discussion/Demonstration
Chainsaw Processing of Logs for Blanks
This month's demonstration will feature Steve Russell showing various ways to process green wood logs for blanks and turning squares. We will be cutting some nice Ash tree logs from a tree that Pete Allen had removed from his yard recently. If you a woodturner, chances are that sooner or later you will be working with green wood. Learn how to properly cut logs for blanks and how to use end grain sealer to help prevent the cut blanks from checking until you can rough them out in your studio. Remember to bring some of your recent projects: Be sure to bring some of your recent turned projects for our Show and Tell, or Show and Ask session. This can be a completed turning, or one that you are still working on. During our Show and Tell, you will have the opportunity to show your turning to the group and tell us a little about how you turned it, what finish you used and if you encountered any challenges when turning, sanding, or finishing the piece. Everyone in the club is interested in what you've been doing at the lathe. If you need help with a project you're working on, bring it and let's discuss it during the Show and Ask session. There is a lot of experience in the club and everyone is always happy to help. Invite your woodturning friends: Please invite any of your woodturning friends who you think may be interested in joining our club. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me (Steve) at 713-826-0046 Cell, or Ron Clift at 713-542-8999. I'm looking forward to seeing you all at Ron's. Take care and best wishes to you and yours! Steve Russell LSWA President
