Airbrushing 101 with Dennis Tholen
|Our July meeting will feature our very own finishing expert, Dennis Tholen. Dennis will be demonstrating the various types of airbrushes/compressors that are on the market, what to look for when purchasing an airbrush, and his personal recommendations for using an airbrush in a woodturner's studio.|
Dennis will also demonstrate the basics of using an airbrush and then he will use it to color a bowl that he turned out of the same Poplar stock that was used during last month’s retreat. If you’ve ever wanted to learn about airbrushing, this is your chance! Airbrushes are one of the most useful tools in a woodturner's toolbox for embellishing woodturnings. Come and see how easy it is to take your woodturnings to the next level by using airbrushes for colouring and embellishment.
Note: If you would like to try your hand at using an airbrush, there will be a short hands-on session after the meeting. Why not bring one of the bowls you turned at the retreat and give it a go? You don't want to miss this special demonstration!
Remember to bring some of your recent projects: Be sure to bring some of your recent turned projects for our Show and Tell, or Show and Ask session. This can be a completed turning, or one that you are still working on. During our Show and Tell, you will have the opportunity to show your turning to the group and tell us a little about how you turned it, what finish you used and if you encountered any challenges when turning, sanding, or finishing the piece.
Everyone in the club is interested in what you've been doing at the lathe. If you need help with a project you're working on, bring it and let's discuss it during the Show and Ask session. There is a lot of experience in the club and everyone is always happy to help.
Invite your woodturning friends: Please invite any of your woodturning friends who you think may be interested in joining our club. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Pete at 713-299-7556, or me (Steve) at 713-826-0046 Cell. I'm looking forward to seeing you all at Pete’s. Take care and best wishes to you and yours!
