This meeting will be our second hands-on mini-retreat this year! This retreat will focus on basic tool skills using four different woodturning tools including: 1) Bowl Gouge, 2) Spindle Gouge, 3) Scraper and 4) Parting Tool/Roughing Gouge.

Gary Barnes will also be on hand teaching his hand carving workshop. Four lathe stations will be setup, so there will be lots of opportunity to have a go at the lathe. We will be accepting free will donations to help defray the cost of lunch and the wood. Lunch will include pizza and sodas.

Note: Please bring 1) a face shield, 2) dust mask if you prefer, and 3) any tools that you may wish to use to complete your project. There will be a limited number of turning tools at the event (Woodcraft’s), but you should bring a few of your tools to make certain you have what you need. Please mark your name on each tool (tape and a black marker work well) that you bring.

We will not be doing any sanding at this retreat. We will concentrate exclusively on tool techniques using hardwood project blanks. Mastering these types of woodturning tools will help you to gain confidence in using other tools on your lathe.

There will be several experienced members at the retreat (Pete Allen, Dennis Tholen, Bill Goff, Brian Greb) to help you as you are going through your skill exercises. I will also be floating from lathe to lathe as needed.
