Turning an Olivewood Chalice
This month's turning demonstration will feature LSWA's own Vice President, Pete Allen, who will demonstrate how to turn an Olivewood Chalice similar to the one he sent last year to his daughter & son-in-law in China). Pete has received numerous requests to document the How & Why of this unique piece. Pete has had Olivewood specially shipped in for this demo from a tree farm in Israel. Additionally, Pete will introduce us to the supplier of this type of wood and their offer to our Association (they have a studio in Texas).
If that is not enough, Pete will also be demonstrating two new tools - the Easy Rougher and the Easy Finisher in the making of the Chalice. Several members have been asking questions about these tools at recent meetings. Here is your chance to see them in action! (Why not stick around after the demo and try them out for yourself?)
2010 ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING
At 11:30 a.m., we will have a special luncheon/meeting for those of you that would like to impact the club's activities in 2010. We will discuss Meeting Locations, Type of Demo's, Mini Turning Retreats, and ???? - it's up to you. Be a part of the planning for 2010! FREE FOOD will be provided at the planning meeting!
Remember to bring some of your recent projects: Be sure to bring some of your recent turned projects for our Show and Tell, or Show and Ask session. This can be a completed turning, or one that you are still working on. During our Show and Tell, you will have the opportunity to show your turning to the group and tell us a little about how you turned it, what finish you used and if you encountered any challenges when turning, sanding, or finishing the piece.
Everyone in the club is interested in what you've been doing at the lathe. If you need help with a project you're working on, bring it and let's discuss it during the Show and Ask session. There is a lot of experience in the club and everyone is always happy to help.
Invite your woodturning friends: Please invite any of your woodturning friends who you think may be interested in joining our club. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me (Steve) at 713-826-0046 Cell, or Pete Allen at (281) 364-9765, or (713) 299-7556. I'm looking forward to seeing you all at Pete's. Take care and best wishes to you and yours!
