Welcome to all of our new club members and guests! Our October 26th, 2013 club meeting will be held at the Woodcraft Store located at 60 FM 1960 West, Houston, TX 77090 Phone: 281-880-0045 starting promptly at 8:30 a.m.
This month’s demonstration will feature Gary Barnes, who will be demonstrating how to turn a unique style of bottle stopper known as a “Knit Hat, Stocking Cap, or Ski Cap” bottle stopper. With stocking cap bottle stoppers, the stopper’s metal cone fits inside the outer cap of the stopper and is not visible from the outside. When the stopper is mounted on a bottle, only the turned/carved stopper body is visible.

These unique stopper designs can be coloured, painted, wood burned, or carved if desired. They can also be easily adapted for the upcoming holidays by painting them red with white trim (think Santa), or the colors of your favorite sports team to give out at your next Super Bowl Party. If you’ve been looking for a fun and easy holiday project to give family and friends, look no further. Gary will give tips on turning, sanding, finishing and various ways to carve or embellish your stocking cap stoppers.
Note: Our planned October Corian turning mini-retreat has been rescheduled until early 2014.
Invite your woodturning friends: Please invite any of your woodturning friends who you think may be interested in joining our club. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me (Steve) at 713-826-0046. I will look forward to seeing you all at Woodcraft. Take care and best wishes to you and yours!
